Following on from its popular disc of Jewish folk music, “A Yiddishe Mame”, released last year (AM128), the Sirba Octet here perform a fascinating selection of music that was a direct result of the mass immigration to the USA, and particularly New York, during the first part of the 20th century. Drawing inspiration from their cultural roots, composers such as George Gershwin and Irving Berlin brought with them a new sound that soon took over the music scene of the time.
