Maometto II is probably better known in its French adaptation as Le siège de Corinthe. Originally written for Naples, it had to be adapted to the more conventional taste of the public in Venice when it was staged there in 1822. This second version of the opera adds an overture and a happy ending to the work, adjusting its larger forms to the structures to which Venice was accustomed.
